Who we are

Oasis was formed in 1985 with a vision for community — a place where everyone is included, making a contribution, and reaching their God-given potential. In four decades, that single vision has led us into all kinds of work, from churches to schools, healthcare to housing, youth work to prevention of trafficking, and most recently to the youth justice system.
OUR STORY
Oasis’ story begins with a vision held by founder, Steve Chalke, to build a house for children who had no one to care for them, a school that was worth going to, and a hospital that would look after those in need.
OUR MISSION
Today we work to build stronger communities. Experience tells us that stronger communities are the foundation of a just and thriving society, where there is no one left out. What we learn through holistic work with local neighbourhoods, we also use to innovate for change. Where systems are failing and excluding, we work together to find new solutions.
OUR ETHOS
We often describe ourselves as a movement of people, rather than an organisation. We gather around our Oasis ethos and values, which are formed out of our Christ-centred identity. The badge of Oasis is our ‘Circle of Inclusion’ – a visual reminder of our vision of inclusion and justice, where everyone can find a place to belong and thrive.
